Interior Design 6-Step Process

Hauser Designs utilizes the following 6-Step Process to create an environment perfect for your lifestyle and budget. Your new surroundings will exceed your expectations. By getting to know you and your likes/dislikes, and by taking the time to understand your goals, we assure you that your new or remodeled home will be your favorite place to live, rest, and play.

1 Complimentary Consultation

The first step of our interior design process is our free 40-minute consultation. During this initial meeting, we will discuss your project and listen to the dreams and vision you have for your new or remodeled home. We will explain the many affordable options we offer and answer any questions you may have. Even if you aren’t sure what you want, we encourage you to take advantage of this no-obligation opportunity to find out more about our professional design services.

2 Architectural Plan Review and Design Input

After meeting with you, and we become a team, exploration of your space or space plans/construction documents begins. In designing your home’s interiors, we will consider important factors such as style, function, needs of each space and your long-term plans. Customarily, I take a set of plans to review and start the evaluation portion of the project. The design process includes space for the furniture required to make the areas function well for your family. We develop focal points within each space along with evaluating textural and color considerations. Also, is your project void of interior detailing, or is it highly developed? We will assess and offer unique solutions. Scale and proportion of the entire space is crucial in the process at this point. Designers should save you money by choosing significant areas that need to be addressed and are sensitive to other areas that support the main focal point or objective.

Many homeowners make the mistake of wanting to love each and every detail independently. But, details should not compete with each other.

Architects are experts in areas such as orienting your property on the site, structural concerns including the main development of the home, and the various elevations. Designers are best at interiors and listening to clients concerning the livability of the interior. Both parties can work very well together on your project to ensure good balance between the interior/exterior architectural detailing. The job of the contractor is to build what is on the plan that has been established by the architect and designer. In the case of remodeling, it is not always necessary to include an architect. You can act as your own contractor, or utilize the talents of a licensed contractor depending on the needs of the project.

3 Material Selection and Detailing

When Step 2 has been completed and the interior floor plan has been established, it is then developed further with material selection, elevations of cabinetry, electrical plans reviewed including floor outlets, hardware and lighting selections begin and custom details are drafted such as tile surface designs.

4 Furnishings

We are very fortunate to have so many unbelievable home furnishings products at our fingertips! Selecting the most appropriate furnishings and accessories for your home will tie everything together and provide you with the special comforts you desire. Creating that unique environment includes comfy sofas, area rugs, window coverings and art hanging on the walls all with a quick turn-around — which is the best! Our goal is to specific your furnishings and plan for delivery and installation upon move-in day. On many projects we do this with the living area, dining areas and master bedroom with the remaining secondary areas to be addressed at a later date. This part of the project can be the most rewarding as it truly makes the space unique to your family. I personally do the accessorizing and carry art inventory as well as purchase from our extensive valley art resources. I am also happy to work with your personal collections or provide guidelines if you want to purchase art independently. My goal is to create a home for you that is truly magazine-worthy even if you don’t wish it be published.

5 Adjoining Significant Areas

Having lived in the Valley of the Sun for forty years, I have become accustomed to integrating the interior with the exterior views. Creating sensational exterior patio areas is a must in this climate. I love to design great outdoor kitchens, as well as furnish the patio with the same care and interest as the interior of the home. Walking from the inside to the outside of your home should be seamless in look and feel.

6 Installation/Walk-through

We take extreme care in installing all of the pieces that make up the design of your home. All details, big and small, are considered to ensure the very best placement of your furnishings, accessories, window coverings, art and more. Believe it or not, but the installation step is similar in nature to an artist signing their piece of art. Installing is my signature on your home. During the final walk-through assessment, your complete “jaw-dropping” satisfaction is my ultimate goal.

Budget and Fees

We offer two fee options:

1)  Project based on a price per square foot depending on the amount of detailing necessary.

2)  By the hour for full project design and coordination. If we are involved throughout the design and construction processes including obtaining multiple bids on cabinetry, lighting, etc., a fee based on hours is customary. There is such satisfaction in obtaining a great end result that it is worth the time and dollars spent in the initial planning stages.
